Entry for August 10, 2007
It's been exactly three months since I embarked on this latest adventure, and I wouldn't trade them for all the Tanzanite in the world:) Khatib, the owner of the tour company I work for, left today for Dar es Salaam. Later, he's going to Las Vegas for a Tourism Convention where he hopes to drum up new business. As ridiculous as it sounds, he's left me in charge (so party in Zanzibar like it's 1999)! And what do you ask is my first 'dive right in' task? Organizing a trip for 50 Indians (dots not feathers- can I politically correctly even say that?) They arrive on the 16th, and split up into different groups to enjoy various activities (ie. spice tour/Stown Town tour/restaurants, etc.) Any ideas how I'm gonna pull that off? Usiwasiwasi (don't worry), I'll make it happen- Mungu Akipenda (God willing). I've definitely gotten used to the island lifestyle- one of the many local phrases I constantly use is "What day is it?" By the way, if you'd like to send me large, unmarked bills, I will happily find you a nice piece of paradise for which to build a bungalow (and usiwasiwasi, I'll take care of it when you're not here:) I've seriously been pondering the idea of buying real estate here and holding it until I'm ready to build a home. The price of land is still very reasonable, and building costs are next to nothing. I could definitely see living here for six months out of the year- it's quite feasible considering the high and low seasons are completely opposite those of Florida. I still have the travel bug, though. I'd really like to learn Japanese in Japan for a while while donning my kimono robe with a symbol on the back that means 'Happiness'. I also still need South America and Antarctica to complete my 'Continent Hopping' push-pin map. Tutaona (we will see). Mungu akipenda.
