I am typing this entry from my
Discover Zanzibar office. I am now officially the new manager of a growing tour company based here in Stone Town. I spent yesterday travelling along the east coast of the island in order to meet the many resort managers and get a better feel for the places we send tourists. I couldn't have written a more insane situation- try to sail around the world when you've never sailed before (we all know how that turned out)- do the next reasonable thing- move to Zanzibar to learn Swahili- become a leader of a tour company in a place you've only lived in for two months. If you could see and hear some of the ways I've been 'winging it' in front of tourists- let's just say that memorizing Ferris Bueller's Day Off has definitely come in handy. Every week has a completely different feel to it (ie. new students arrive at the language school, others leave, I spend days at different parts of the island, etc.) The tour business is very unique- I meet new and interesting people all the time, share bits of my life with them, then do it again with a different group. Because of this, I have felt so many emotions during my stay here. When friends (two weeks here can be enough to establish permanent bonds when all you do is talk with one another) leave, I definitely feel a sense of loss. It's at those times that I feel the closest to the Lord- "It's just You and me now" is a sentence I've gotten very used to saying. He really is the only One who knows and understands everything we see and go through. I hope you all had a great 4th of July! Thank you for your continued prayers and e-mails. By the way, today marks the longest I've ever been away from America- I've forgotten all of my English and had to find an interpreter for this post. Enjoy the weekend!
