In eleven days, a crew of three will embark on a once and a lifetime journey. The plan- Sail around the world and stop at all the beautiful places we've always dreamt about visiting. While island-hopping, I have three main goals: Learn to sail, re-connect/referesh with God, and meet new people (not necessarily in that order). Tom Culligan, the owner of the boat, has posted a tenative travel itinerary at http://www.afewgoodboats.com/tours.html
Jeremy Phelps, a long-time travel buddy and all-around-good-guy, will be joining us on the WorldWind (boat name). I can only tell you what I know of God's apparent involvement in this trip. After a 28 stay at Spencer rehab on St. Pete Beach, Florida (commited myself after too many months of acting and drinking like a pirate), I met a man at the gym the day before I was scheduled to leave. He explained about how his life long dream of circumnavigating the globe was close at hand, but that he needed a couple of crewmembers to assist him along the way, and wondered if we knew of anyone that might be interested. Not knowing the first thing about sailing, how I would pay for it, or what my family and friends would say, I blurted out, "I'll go!"
Needless to say, I've bought a book on sailing, sold my truck and consolidated all of my bank accounts, and informed my shocked/surprised/skeptical/loving/caring/excited family and friends about my not-so-well-thought-out, rash decision. I can't explain the feeling I have about this trip or any of my past adventures, but I know one thing- when God is with me spectacular/unordinary/extraordinary/life-changing events can and inevitably will happen.
